And so are half of the Democratic politicians. Or can you think of a better explanation why she and many Democrats voted for HR 6304? It provides for the wide-scale invasion of privacy of Americans, including immunity for telecommunications corporations who broke/break the law. Pelosi could have single handedly stopped this bill from being voted on by pulling it from the floor and refusing to call a vote. Not only did she allow this travesty of law to see the light of day, she voted for it! Look and see if your “Representative” voted for HR 6304.
If the President breaks the law, he should be accountable. When people or corporations help the President break the law, they should also be accountable. Why is has it become “unamerican” or “terrorist” (or in some nutjob circles “communist”) to demand that the President obey the law? The Constitution says of the President
he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executedThe Constitution says nothing about Laws not applying to him. Many right wing nutjobs are reinterpreting the Constitution claiming that our Founding Fathers intended for the President to reign supreme, and that by definition, anything the President does is legal. It doesn’t even pass the giggle test, but just to knock that argument out completely look no further than the Declaration of Independence, written by the very same heralded forefathers. The first grievance listed in the Declaration of Independence is:
He [The King] has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.If our forefathers expected a King to follow laws, what do you expect the chances are they’d expect a President to? Just for kicks, here’s another line which doesn’t apply at all to George W. Bush:
He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power.Clinton lied to Congress about sex, got impeached and very nearly was convicted. Bush has lied many many times to the detriment of a lot more than a stained dress, and what has happened to him? Congress is supposed to be a watchdog, not a lapdog. This comment is particularly poignant. Nancy Pelosi promised change when the Democrats took Congress in 2006. She has sorely disappointed us. Keep your change Nancy, we want real leadership. If the Democrats won’t speak for us, it’s time to follow in the steps of our forefathers.
